Africa4Climate is a limited company incorporated in Switzerland with company number CHE-384.188.655 and registered office in Lugano, Corso Elvezia 33.
A4C has been established with the aim of producing and marketing carbon credits generated in Africa, while contributing to sustainable development and biodiversity conservation through the creation of local employment and the reinvestment of part of the profits for local actions.
A4C is a company set up for profit; however, its approach is strongly defined by development and nature conservation objectives. Indeed, the underlying feature of A4C is to contribute to local development by redistributing an important share of the profit to the participating local communities in rural and marginal urban areas. Moreover, the core activities necessary to produce GHG emission reductions and eventually carbon credits, are based on the work of national NGOs and the creation of jobs for local workforce (for example blacksmiths, sellers, farmers,…) providing revenues for economically depressed communities.
A4C aims at contributing to the protection of natural resources by a wide array of activities such as sustainable forest management, reforestation and reduced wood and charcoal consumption. Further activities in support of local development, climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection will be developed while the A4C grows and its activities unfold. Positive outcomes of A4C’s undertakings will be felt also in the health sector, by providing enhanced cooking stoves that reduce the amount of smoke of users’ houses.
Each of the founders of A4C have an extensive experience of over 25 years in the design and manage of national and transboundary development projects based on environmental and climate perspectives and funded, among others, by the European Union, the United Nations, Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, European Investment Bank, etc.
The team of A4C has also a track record of personal involvement with NGOs, the Red Cross Movement and other non-profit organizations. Importantly, most of the members of A4C have been working together for many years (notably in development and conservation projects in African countries), developing strong friendship bonds based on the common view that we all share the responsibility of preserving life on the planet and the need to a fair distribution of wealth.
